2015 Paraduxx Howell Mountain Napa Valley Red Wine
Our Vineyard Series is a collection of limited-production wines that offer their own variations on the contemporary style of our Paraduxx red blends. While taking inspiration from the famed Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blends of Southern Australia, this wine is also shaped by its Howell Mountain origins, where high elevations, a unique climate and volcanic soils yield epic wines. The result is a wine with the bold structure and blackberry notes of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and the rich dark fruit and white pepper character of Syrah.
Composition: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah; Oak: 100% French Oak, 60% New Oak, 40% Second Vintage
The nose displays effusive aromas of rich black cherry and toasted marshmallow, along with a hint of nutmeg from aging in new oak French barrels. Though bold and mouth-coating on the palate, this wine strikes a lovely balance between richness and the robust tannins that effortlessly support concentrated flavors of chocolate-covered cherries.
Other than being approximately a month earlier than usual, our 2015 harvest was smooth and successful, yielding exceptional quality grapes. To allow us ample opportunities for blending, we harvested 16 different grape varieties over the course of 12 weeks. During this period, Mother Nature provided heat to speed up ripening when we needed it, and equally well-timed cooler temperatures when the vines needed a respite. The extended harvest allowed us to pick all varieties at optimal ripeness. As a result, our white grapes show lovely aromatics and varietal character, and our reds show beautiful depth and concentration.
This wine is absolutely worth the splurge. For $82, you get a high quality red that’s perfect for a swanky dinner party at home or a celebratory night out on the town. I enjoyed this immensely during a home cooked meal with my family. We each had a beautiful pan seared ribeye, and Cabernet Sauvignon just so happens to go well with fatty steaks. You can really taste the cherry undertones, and the vino’s wonderfully balanced.
